5 Key Points To Consider When Selecting A Pressure Washer

Pressure washers are indispensable when it comes to efficiently cleaning vehicles, industrial floors and surfaces, garages, patios, you name it. They help cut through the dirt and grime in no time. However, some work better and longer than others. This article will guide through the 5 key points to consider when choosing a pressure washer and why commercial pressure washers are the choice if you are looking for shorter cleaning times, greater cleaning performance, and longer service life.

1. What makes a commercial pressure washer so much more reliable?

2. Gas or electric? What about safety?

If the pressure washer is to be used far from an electrical outlet, in elevated areas or wherever a corded piece of equipment is not desired, a gas machine is the way to go. Electric pressure washers are quieter and do not produce fumes. Larger machines require a 220-volt power supply. And there is no lack of machines that operate from a 110-volt outlet. All our commercial pressure washers are approved for safety by the CSA (Canadian Standards Association). The 220-volt units are as safe as a 220-volt stove or dryer at home.

3. Cold water or hot water?

Cold water pressure washers work well in most cleaning situations and tend to be less expensive. When removing grease and oil from surfaces, a hot water machine is necessary. With a hot water system, the water flows through a set of coils that heats the water.

Don’t be tricked by the ‘hot water’ name—you should not fill a hot water pressure washer with hot water. You need to put cold water in and the machine will heat it to the right temperature.


4. Why PSI and GPM are important?

PSI and GPM help define the machine you need based on the cleaning jobs it will be required to do. 

PSI (Pounds per Square Inch) is a measurement of pressure. It refers to the pressure or force of the water generated by the machine to do the work of cleaning the surface. When a pressure washer is in operation, the water must flow through heating coils (if it is a heated system), hoses, nozzles and/or triggers. In the process, the water pressure may lose its “oomph.” If the job calls for high pressurized cleaning of surfaces with minimal cleaning solution, then the PSI of the machine will be most important when making your machine selection.

GPM (Gallons per Minute) indicates the water flow rate. It refers to the amount of water released per minute. It reflects the speed at which the cleaning can be accomplished When a cleaning solution is used, paying attention to the GPM should be key when choosing a pressuring washing system.

5. Transporting Pressure Washers
